Semiconductor nanocomposites have emerged as highly promising materials for advanced optoelectronic, photonic, and energy-related applications due to their unique light absorption and emission characteristics at the nanoscale. The integration of semiconductor nanoparticles, quantum dots, polymers, and metallic nanostructures within composite architectures significantly modifies optical behavior through quantum confinement, excitonic interaction, and enhanced light–matter coupling. The present study investigates the optical absorption and emission properties of semiconductor nanocomposites using a comprehensive analytical and review-based approach. The study focuses on optical bandgap modulation, photoluminescence behavior, excitonic transitions, defect states, and nanoscale structural effects influencing optical performance.
The findings indicate that semiconductor nanocomposites exhibit tunable optical absorption across ultraviolet, visible, and infrared regions along with enhanced photoluminescence efficiency and improved charge carrier dynamics. Variations in particle size, morphology, nanocomposite concentration, defect engineering, and interfacial coupling significantly influence optical emission intensity and spectral characteristics. Hybrid semiconductor nanocomposites demonstrate enhanced optical confinement, reduced recombination losses, and improved energy transfer mechanisms, making them highly suitable for applications in light-emitting devices, photovoltaic systems, optical sensors, lasers, and photonic communication technologies. Despite challenges related to structural defects, fluorescence quenching, and fabrication complexity, semiconductor nanocomposites represent an important platform for future nanoscale optical and optoelectronic systems.
